Covering the Bases for Foster Care

Children's Service Society of Wisconsin will host its 3rd annual HomeRun & Walk: Covering the bases for Foster Care at Miller Park, Saturday, May 5 at 9:30 a.m. The whole family is welcome to this 5K chip-timed run and 3K family fun walk. Cheer, walk or run to raise awareness of the need for loving foster homes in south eastern Wisconsin. Register by April 18 to receive a FREE t-shirt.

Registration is available online at Active.com, keyword: homerun. Join individually or as a team of family, friends, or coworkers. Kohl's Kid Zone, Resource Fair, and Parking are free. It's great event for the whole family! Entry fees: $20 for adults, $10 for children 5 to 12, free for children 4 and younger. No charge for foster families.

BMCW Basics for the Community and Refresher Session (includes Mandated Reporter Training)

BMCW offers training for mandated reporters and anyone interested in learning more about reporting child abuse and neglect and what the BMCW does after receiving a report. The training is followed by a one-hour information session about Wisconsin Works (W-2) eligibility and benefits. For those who have had mandated reporter training previously, we offer a Refresher. Dates for 2012 are  June 1, September 7, November 2.  Basic training is from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m., W-2 from 11:15a.m.  to 12:30 p.m. Refresher from 1:00 p.n. to 2:30 p.m. Please register as seating is limited. There is no charge.

Foster and Adoptive Parent Orientation

If you have ever thought of becoming a foster or adoptive parent, now is the time to take the first step. BMCW has two agencies that recruit, license, and support foster parents. Your first step is to go to one of the orientation sessions.

Foster Parent Training

Milwaukee Child Welfare Partnership for Professional Development (MCWPPD) provides initial and ongoing training for foster parent licensing. Some classes may be open to unlicensed relative caregivers and adoptive parents. (Contact MCWPPD.)
