Revisions to Child Care Licensing Rules

Group, Family and Day Camps

Effective January 1, 2009

The revised child care licensing rules are effective January 1, 2009.  In addition, the rules have been renumbered due to the creation of the Department of Children and Families, as follows:

  • Licensing Rules for Family Child Care Centers, HFS 45 is now DCF 250

  • Licensing Rules for Group Child Care Centers, HFS 46 is now DCF 251

  • Licensing Rules for Day Camps, HFS 55 is now DCF 252

All licensed providers will receive a copy of a 'user friendly' rule book in early 2009.  You may view and print copies of the revisor's version of the rules by using the link below:

As forms are updated, they will be posted on our forms web page.

The department has prepared three webcast presentations on the rule revisions that provide an overview of the major rule changes:  one presentation for family centers, one presentation for group centers, and one presentation for day camps.

You may use the links below to view the webcasts and to print out a written version of the presentations. The presentation notes may be used as a separate document or as a companion piece to the webcast.

Please contact your licensing specialist if you have questions about the rules.
